Extract from the Somerset Standard
The weather, which was stormy and unsettled during the morning and early part of the afternoon, cleared up wonderfully about five o’clock and remained delightfully fine for the rest of the evening. The procession, which was quite a mile and a half long, moved slowly through the streets amidst a vast crowd of sightseers, and in addition to the competing tableaux and individuals, there were five bands and five fire brigades.
