Frome was transported into a fairyland world filled with nursery rhyme characters, dragons, devils and a touch of Mardi Gras when Carnival fever set in on Saturday afternoon. It was the first time the Carnival floats were judged while taking part in the evening procession. Airsprung Carnival Club won the Butler & Tanner Social Club Trophy with The Midas Touch; Sharon Allen as Thumbelina won the Cornish Cup; Contact A Family Takes Major Steps won the Staplemead Trophy and Frome Junior Gems Majorettes won the Rotary Polio Plus 1987 Shield.
